Epoxy Resins
Epoxy resins are one of the best types of binder for a large number of fiber composites, due to the following reasons:
- Epoxy resins have good adhesion (attachment) to most fillers and reinforcing components (fabrics, etc.)
- The variety of epoxy resins and hardeners available allows for cured materials with a wide range of properties for different technologies and with different mechanical characteristics
- During polymerization, almost no volatile substances are released between the epoxy resin and hardeners, and the shrinkage of the composite is little noticeable, which greatly distinguishes them from polyester and phenolic resins
- Strength properties of composites based on epoxy binder are noticeably higher than those of polyester and phenolic resins
